Amal Matar Receives NIH Fellowship in Bioethics

Amal Matar has received a two-year fellowship to study bioethics at the NIH Clinical Bioethics Center. Amal is a former 2010 MERETI trainee and is currently serving as the Academic Coordinator for MERETI.   She received a Masters Degree in Biotechnology with a specialization in research ethics at the American University in Cairo, for which she did an interview study of chairs of Research Ethics Committees in Egypt, assessing their perspectives regarding these committees.   At the NIH, Amal and other fellows will study ethical issues related to conduct of research, clinical practice, genetics and health policy.  In addition to research and writing, fellows participate in weekly bioethics seminars, case conferences, ethics consultations, and IRB deliberations, and have access to multiple educational opportunities at NIH.  Please help me congratulate Amal Matar on receiving the prestigious award.
