Ethics of Stem Cell Research Workshop at Cairo University

Dr. Silverman, the Director of MERETI program, gave a talk on the ethics of genetic and stem cell research, on the 17th of December at Cairo University Medical School famously known as Kasr el Aini. The talk was open to Cairo University medical staff, students and
faculty members.

The session was organized by Dr. Noha Assem an ex MERETI trainee, a member of Cairo University Medical School and a Lecturer of Public Health at the school. The session was interactive and many of audiences shared in the discussion that followed the
presentations.

During his visit, Dr. Silverman met with members of the IRB at the Medical School where they discussed controversial cases faced by the IRB.

In addition, Dr. Silverman gave the same talk to Children Cancer Hospital Research Unit. The presentation took place in the conference hall at the hospital. The MERETI team met with the Director of the hospital as well as the Head of the Research Unit.

Dr. Silverman was also invited to give the talk at the American University in Cairo. He met briefly with the Head of Biology Department and explored potential collaboration between MERETI and graduate programs at the department.
