Funding Renewed for MERETI Strengthening Research Ethics Capacity Grant

logo_MoroccoThe Fogarty International Center of the National Institutes of Health has renewed funding for the Middle East Research Ethics Training Initiative (MERETI).  Principal investigators for this grant include Dr. Henry Silverman from the University of Maryland,  Dr. Hany Sleem, who is Director of the Egyptian Network of Research Ethics Committees (ENREC),  and Dr. Sara Brair from Al Neelain University in Khartoum, Sudan.

The overall goal of this training grant is to strengthen bioethics education, research and capacity for ethical review of health-related research in the Middle East and North Africa and to establish sustainable degree programs in research methodology and research ethics.  Presently, a successful diploma degree program is ongoing at Al Neelain University and another one is being planned for Heliopolis University in Cairo, Egypt.   There are also plans to establish online Continuing Medical Education (CME) programs in research  methodology and research ethics to be hosted by ENREC.  We look forward to another exciting year!
