A two-day workshop on research ethics was held in Yangon, Myanmar on Feb. 4-5, 2015. Dr. Henry Silverman, in conjunction with Myaing Nyunt, Associate Professor at University of Maryland, organized a workshop that involved more than 40 participants from various institutions in Myanmar (the Department of Medical Research (MOH), the Defense Service Medical Council, the Myanmar Medical Association, the University of Public Health, and the University School of Medicine-1 and -2). This workshop was made possible through a Fogarty International Center/NIH supplement grant to the parent MERETI grant. One of the aims of this workshop was to select 4-6 applicants to join the summer program in research ethics at the University of Maryland Baltimore. This initial effort will be the start of a research ethics capacity program in this country.
